Villa de Mazo is a privileged place for those looking to experience the outdoors in its purest form. Its trails run from the sea to the volcanic peaks, connecting the agricultural tradition with high-altitude landscapes, while the sea invites you to discover lava seabeds and marine life in enclaves such as La Bajita, El Pocito, and La Salemera. The municipality is also a benchmark for mountain biking, with marked routes that cross forests, lava fields, and crops, in addition to having a permanent sports orienteering circuit, a pioneer on the island, which makes Mazo a meeting point for schools and athletes. Stargazing has one of its best settings here, at the Astronomical Viewpoint of Montaña de Las Toscas, where the purity of the sky turns every night into an unforgettable experience. All of this is complemented by the proximity of the El Pilar Refuge and the great island routes that cross its territory, reinforcing Mazo’s vocation as an active, natural, and authentic destination.

More events and activities
Among the other activities that can be carried out in the municipality, the Buggy 4×4 excursions and the routes in the open-top Van 4×4 Eco Tours, both organized by Canary Live Experience, stand out. These vehicles allow you to reach some of the most impressive landscapes of the municipality, such as Roque Niquiomo and the La Faya laurel forest tunnels. And they are also combined with astronomy, speleology, and hiking activities, offering complete and varied experiences for visitors.
Stargazing is another of the municipality’s great attractions, especially from the Las Toscas viewpoint. La Palma is a certified Starlight Tourist Destination, recognized for its excellent qualities for the contemplation of dark and clean skies. In the municipality, this activity is offered by Ad Astra and Canary Live Experience.
Motorsports in all its forms also has strong roots in the municipality, offering a sporting spectacle to visitors.
Two competitions stand out.
The Hoyo de Mazo Ascent, which was recovered, after many years, in the 2024 season.
Organized by El Muro Racing, it is part of the calendar of the S/C de Tenerife Mountain Championship and the La Palma Mountain Championship.
The Clásica Taburiente, organized by C. D. Clásicos La Palma, will celebrate its seventh edition in 2026 as part of the Canary Islands Regularity Championship (CCR). It is a motorsport event for classic vehicles in which precision prevails over speed: the teams must maintain an average imposed by the organization and complete each section with the fewest number of penalties.
Vehicles with more than 25 years participate, with a driver and navigator, who follow a road book with the indications of the route and the average speeds.
Motorsports in Mazo also has the Llano del Calvario Circuit of the Adea Club.
The municipality’s natural areas are also an ideal setting for horse riding.
Every year, the Raid Altos de Villa de Mazo takes place.
An equestrian endurance event in which horse and rider must cover a set number of kilometres, divided into stages, passing veterinary checks at the end of each one. This event brings together nature, a love of horses, and time with family and friends.
The La Palma Bestial Race, a spectacularly staged obstacle course and one of the major events on the island’s sporting calendar, will take place in Villa de Mazo in 2026, bringing together athletes, fans and families for an experience that combines sport, nature, personal achievement and entertainment.
