Permanent orientation circuit
The CPO Villa de Mazo is a free outdoor sports facility that allows the practice of the sport of orienteering through fixed beacons located at various points of interest in the municipality (urban area and urban-forestal interface) and is approved by the Spanish Orienteering Federation with the code CPO-CA 4.
The CPO allows orienteering races, training, classes, didactic workshops… as well as sightseeing tours or simply enjoying a walk, either individually, in pairs or in groups. As a general rule, participants have to go through some points marked on a map in the order indicated on it, choosing their own route to reach them.
Thus, at each point there is a beacon (plate) with a QR code and people can choose between several routes with different levels of difficulty that are indicated by their color, from pink (initiation) to black (very difficult). Each route differs from the others by the number of beacons to be found and the total elevation gain and distance to be covered from the start to the finish line.
We recommend downloading the free IOrienteering app from the Play Store or App Store if we want to record our passage through each Waypoint, know the total and partial times used to find them and what place we occupy with respect to other people who have made the same route.
For the realization of any tour it is advisable to wear comfortable clothes and footwear and a compass, if you have one, although it is not necessary. The maps can be downloaded for free here and can be viewed on the phone itself, although it is highly recommended to always carry them in paper format in order to have a clearer and more accurate view of the route and to be able to orient ourselves better.
Places and times for the collection of printed maps (free of charge)
– Municipal Library in Plaza Pedro Pérez Díaz, 1 (Plaza del Ayuntamiento): Monday to Friday, from 15:00 to 19:00.
– Department of Culture, in Plaza Pedro Pérez Díaz, 1 (Plaza del Ayuntamiento, in Plaza Pedro Pérez Díaz, 1 (Plaza del Ayuntamiento), in the lower part of the Library: Monday to Friday, from 8:00 to 14:00.
– Casa Roja Museum in Calle Maximiliano Pérez Díaz, 23: Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00.
– Municipal Market at Enlace Dr. Morera Bravo, s/n (next to Centro Cultural Andares): Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 to 14:00.
– Jasmine Thai Restaurant in Calle María de Carmen Martínez Jerez, 4 : Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday from 12:00 to 17:00. Saturday from 12:00 to 21:00.
– Municipal gymnasium in Calle María del Carmen Martínez Jerez, 4B (under the Plaza del Corpus): Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 13:00 and from 16:00 to 22:00, Saturdays from 9:00 to 13:00.
To start any of the routes once we have the map in our possession, we are located in the Plaza del Corpus, we load the test in the app with the code printed on the map, then we read the QR code and start the tour. Once scanned the last beacon, we return to the same starting point, scan the finish code and we can see all the information about our performance and upload it to the web if we wish.
