From PR LP 16 to Camino de La Faya (PR LP 17)

As with the SL VM 123, this trail’s main purpose is to connect two higher-level trails (PR LP 16 and PR LP 17). It does so at an almost constant elevation of around 1,300 meters. At this altitude, the fayal-brezal vegetation dominates completely, despite the intricate network of forest tracks that cross it. It is the shortest of the trails in this guide, making it ideal for combining with the other proposed routes.

Most of the route runs along the so-called Pista Forestal del Este (Eastern Forest Track), which extends throughout the region to Fuencaliente. To our left, the silhouette of Montaña de El Caldero rises. Towards the coast, the clearing caused by the opening of the track allows us to see a good part of the midlands of Villa de Mazo and Breña Baja (as long as the breeze has not made an appearance to cover everything in clouds). On clear days, the profile of Cumbre Nueva, as well as the edge of the Caldera de Taburiente, will even be visible in our direction of travel.

Halfway through our route, the trail leaves the track to the right and descends somewhat abruptly towards its meeting with the PR LP 17. It is precisely at this point where we find the Cruz de los Acosta (Acosta’s Cross), an unmistakable sign that the trail is already quite old.
