From the GR 131 to Llano de Las Moscas (PR LP 16)

The SL VM 125 can also be seen as a shortcut of the PR LP 16. Like the latter, it serves to connect the Volcano Route, in turn a subsection of the GR 131 or Ruta del Bastón, with the path that travels towards El Pueblo de Mazo. It starts near the gigantic crater of Hoyo Negro, the first volcanic manifestation of the San Juan eruption (June 29, 1949). It is an area devoid of vegetation, since on the one hand the youth of the land has not yet allowed the settlement of the pine forest and on the other it is too high for the monteverde to colonize it. Only a few specimens of crespa (Plantago webbii) have managed to start taking root in an area that is tremendously hostile to life.
From the edge of the Cumbre Vieja, the route of the path borders the north of Pico Nambroque, whose silhouette is recognizable by the roques that project from one of its slopes. At 1922 meters, it is the second highest peak of the Cumbre Vieja, only surpassed by Las Deseadas. A few meters away, the crater of Montaña de la Morcilla awaits us, around which the pine forest is already becoming visible. The yellow flowers of the brooms flood the area with color during the spring, in open contrast with the ochre and ash tones typical of the volcanic terrain. A forest track finally leads us to Llano de las Moscas.
